Delaware Spending is an independent transparency project that turns the state's own open data into something people can actually read.
What this is
Delaware Spending visualizes how the State of Delaware spends public money — every check, credit-card swipe, contract, budget line and revenue dollar from fiscal year 2018 to the present. The site pairs a live dashboard with The Spending Desk, a series of plain-English analyses built from the same records.
Where the data comes from
Every figure comes from the State of Delaware Open Data Portal (Socrata), aggregated server-side from millions of source rows and refreshed periodically (current snapshot: July 23, 2026). Datasets used:

Methodology notes
- Coverage starts FY2018; the state does not publish FY2015–FY2017 on the portal.
- Budget figures are published in thousands of dollars and converted for display.
- Payroll checks are anonymized by the state — individual salaries are not derivable from these datasets. Educator figures are official averages by organization.
- Federal fiscal years run July–June. "FY2026" ends June 30, 2026.
Independence & accuracy
This is an independent project — not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for the State of Delaware. Figures are computed from published records and shown with their sources so you can verify every number; if something looks off, the portal's raw data is the authority. Nothing here is legal, accounting or investment advice.
Reuse
The underlying data is public. Charts and pages may be shared with attribution and a link back. Journalists: every table on this site can be reproduced in minutes from the sources above.
